Katie Viggers Designer Feature

About Katie Viggers:

I'm a children's book illustrator and mono print obsessive. All my work starts off a black and white mono print, sometimes it stays like this and some times i play around with it on the computer. I only really draw animals and generally get obsessed with one animal at a time.

Inspirations:

I love to create prints that make me laugh or tell a story. I'm a big fan of Hockney, Sara Fanelli, Judith Kerr and bears. I like to create child friendly illustrations that have a certain amount of sophistication and humour.

Best Sellers:
My bears work seem to be the most popular, particularly this one which is the opening spread to a new picture book I'm working on about bears. It's available as a card of a big print.

We Make London:

At We Make Christmas I will be selling, original mono prints, limited edition prints, cards (some festive) and I have just finished a 2010 calender which will be available in various different sizes. Oh and hopefully some bear mugs!

Strikk Designer Feature

About Strikk:

Hello, I’m Tanya, the hands behind strikk (Norwegian for knit). I’m originally from Cape Town and have been in London for close on 4 years now. I initially did Law and at the moment, knitting is not my full-time job – during working hours, I’m behind my desk at a large investment bank in the City looking like I know what I’m doing…..and then I cycle like mad to get home to start my other job of knitting on my couch, or down at the pub!

I knit all orders by hand and where possible, I use yarn that has been hand dyed and spun by women in job creation projects in South Africa.

Inspirations:

My grandmother is my inspiration and teacher – she taught me when I was very young. I find knitting incredibly therapeutic – that and my love for all things interior (the pile of interior magazines I use for inspiration will attest to that), makes knitting a very pleasurable experience - just hope my hands will last the journey…

Best Seller:

My ruched cushion in moss green seems to be the one that gets the most orders. It sort of happened by accident to be honest, but the end product turned out pretty well and the textures created by the ruching makes it an interesting cushion.

We Make London:

We’ll definitely be having some strikk homeware bestsellers at the We Make Christmas Fair – but in new great winter colours. Look out for the classic cable knitted cushions as well – and we’re working on some new textured cushions in preparation for next season (you’ll get a first look in at the Fair).

But winter wouldn’t be bearable without a hotwater bottle. We’ve got classic grey with contrast red ribbons (in keeping with Christmas cheer) and look out for the little hot pink number as well. These are sure to make great Christmas pressies.

Paper Red Shoes Designer Feature

Spork
I found this kooky kitchen utensil at a charity shop and photographed it.

About Paper Red Shoes:

I am a huge fan of mint-coloured refrigerators, grey walls, wheat fields and vast expanses of sky. I am from Kansas, which is also where I studied art. After university, I moved to South Korea where I met my lovely English husband. My work is Americana 1950’s meets Mark Rothko in the sense that it has a definite vintage vibe with a colour/modern twist. I try and reuse as many materials as possible, which brings up a lot of fun challenges and forced creativity. Creating is like eating; I have to do it and I love it.

Inspirations:

Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Japanese woodblock prints, colour, nature, sunshine, vintage fabrics, good design, good food, and friends.

Best Sellers:

Hoover the Floor from the Brunton Road Series.

We Make Chris
tmas:

I’ll be selling Christmas ornaments and gift boxes from vintage papers. I’ll also be selling the Brunton Road series and Brunton Road Series II collages. I’m very excited to introduce feed sack tea towels at We Make Christmas3. Feed sack material first began in American around 1840. Companies would sell flour, sugar, animal feed, etc in printed cotton fabrics. Women used these fabrics to make clothes, curtains, and quilts. I’ve raided my grandma’s closet and brought some great prints to make tea towels.

Edith Ceramics Designer Feature

About Edith Ceramics:

I have been working as a potter over 15 years. I studied in Art college Sarospatak in Hungary. After my studies, I worked as a thrower. I gathered lots of experiences through out these years. I had the privilege to meet with interesting, different artists and individuals. I set up my studio in 2000 in Budapest. Mostly, I hand-crafted table wares including tea-sets, candlesticks, lamps. Currently, I live and work in London. I make black and white earthstone finely designed tableware (such as cups , coaster) and decorative vessels (such as vases and platters). I hand build some pieces and press old Hungarian laces on the clay. This gives delicacy for each items. I use lace pattern in the details, such as porcelain cup’s handle, birds’ plinth. Some pieces are hand thrown, some others are hand built. I finish my pots with satin, matt transparent glaze or burnish them. I do some useful, exciting object as an apple-baker, small fondue-pot or picture holders. I make some unique lamps, which are by nature Morocco style inspired.

Inspirations:

I Like to create new objects on the wheel. I had lots of colours in Hugary. When I moved to London, I wanted to make a change. Smoked, wood-fired items fascinates me. That is why I decided to make black and white items. I try to design decorative and useful items at the same time. The Jazz music inspires me to create new shapes.

Best Sellers:

My apple baker is a real fun pot. It works as a small fondue-maker. You can melt cheese and chocolate in the top-pot with a simple T-light in the bottom. I sell them with a small recipe book. It is a unique gift for anybody.

We Make Christmas:

I will sell some handmade, porcelain xmas decoration with a lace pattern. I will have porcelain cups in handcrafted wooden box. Picture holders, birds on bamboo sticks, lamps, lace bowls, tea-light holders. I will cook apple also in the apple-baker, so the visitors can taste it.

Circe's Knicker Draw Designer Feature

About Circe's Knicker Draw:

Hello, my names Rachel and I hand make knickers and other goodies out of vintage fabrics, rescued garments and colourful off cuts. I also use new fabrics with quirky prints, but try to use up every last scrap!

I set up as a freelance lingerie designer after I finished my Contour Fashion degree in 2006, I then set up my knicker adventure a little later and got to show at London Alternative Fashion Week which was a great experience.

After a bit of a break to have my daughter Aya, some serious knicker making neglect and a hectic move from Dorset to Gloucestershire I have just started to get back into designing and creating again!Yay!

Inspirations:

I’m inspired by lots of random lovely things . . . . Myths and legends, dinosaurs, ladybirds, creepy crawlies, trees and the sea are just a few!

Best Sellers:

My signature piece is probably my knickers with a detail at the back, its something a little bit quirky and different. Another type of knicker I make have fabric handcuffs attached, something a little bit naughty!

We Make Christmas:

Knickers galore! Also knickers in some special Christmas stockings and some pretty fabric flower brooches! I have also been doing a lot of drawing recently so hopefully some Christmas illustrated postcards and other bits!
